SUPERMAN
Look up at the sky, it's a bird! it's a plane! It's Drones! Well, only if you're in New Jersey that is. All that aside, Warner Brothers / DC Studios and director James Gunn have finally dropped the first trailer for SUPERMAN!
Written & Directed by James Gunn, this is not going to be an "origin story". Rather it will take place as Superman already known to the public, possibly the world. The story is inspired by the comic book "All Star Superman" which debuted in 2005. Written by Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quietly. The story is set in a stage where Superman is slowly dying of radiation poisoning, however he becomes more powerful than ever since his body is approaching it's "Final Days" and dedicating all that he has left of himself to do good to the world before he passes away.
Already a grim and somber story, full of emotion. But that's a good thing. Director James Gunn is more known for his works of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Each of those films highlighted an emotional aspect of each of these heroes. The first one was mainly about the troubled past of Star-Lord played by Chris Pratt, I was immediately drawn to the sad emotion of him losing his mother as a child. The second pivots the emotion to a much broader scope FAMILY "Don's Voice from Fast and the Furios". And the last one was a real tearjerker for me with the character Rocket being the main focal point of his dark and grim troubled past. All of this mixed with one of the best mixed soundtracks of many films up to this date, creates the added dramatized emotion you can feel and ride along with while watching these movies (stories) unfold.
James Gunn is taking that same approach to Superman. Which should be a great way to bring back the Man of Steel, getting the audience invested emotionally and then driving home with a story that will resonate with all the viewers. After more than a decade since the last Superman Movie "Man of Steel" Gunn is bringing Superman back to the big screen in IMAX of course with an emotionally driven hero in the verge of death itself, bringing all his might to defeat the evil that threatens his beloved city Metropolis.

As you can see there are a lot of interesting and important characters mentioned in this film. In my experience when there's a lot of talent in a 2-hour movie, it's quite often when each actor is fighting for screen time in a limited time. If that happens, usually the film becomes over saturated with too many characters and too many story lines to keep up with that the audience can get lost.
The difference here is that James Gunn is no stranger to a full line of A-List actors and sharing the screen time together. So, we will see how he introduces each of these characters in a way that is easy to digest and understand without losing sight on the story / plot. Either way, I am very very excited to see this film.
Superman will be hitting theaters on July 11th, 2025. Watch the official first trailer below.
