Star Wars - Skeleton Crew
Star Wars - Skeleton Crew is an upcoming Disney + series that revolves around four young kids and an alien kid embarking in a journey like no other...a Star Wars Adventure.
The initial trailer was released back on August 9th, 2024, and a new Final trailer was released on November 1st.
Based on the trailers it seems like this show is trying to do a Stranger Things cast and combining it into the Star Wars universe. Four kids getting into trouble, with skills and talent that push them to the edge, enveloping them in a new world far from their own. Seems cliche and unoriginal if they're going with that style.
But it should garner the interest of tweens and kids alike to be excited to see someone around their age group getting into an adventure as fantastical as this. Definitely will spark the imagination for them and I'm sure that is exactly what Disney is looking to achieve.
It seems that Disney and many other studios are using this generation for their movies. Backtracking them from the originals and placing them in the present. What do I mean?
For example. The SCREAM Franchise.
The first film came out in 1996 with Drew Barrymore as the star of the beginning of the movie. Then a sequel came through and a third, then a fourth which technically ended the legacy in 2011. A whole decade passes, and we have a fifth film with a new Star for the beginning of the movie, Jenna Ortega. Which then led to a sixth film. However, it's not like they started a brand-new story line. Yes, it's a new story but it's connected to the originals. Even the beginning of the fifth film is eerily similar to the first.
Another example is the ALIEN Franchise.
With the new Alien Romulus movie, they gave us a new younger cast which was supposed to resonate with the current generation. But they did the same thing, they intertwined it with the original films. Specifically, the very first Alien movie.
So, what gives? Why the "Requel's"? Well based on my observations. It's taken way too long for the Entertainment industry to come up with a new franchise that captures the interest of the current generations. A very interconnected generation that has a major impact with Social Media. So, what better way to gain traction and public notice than with today's social media enthusiasts posting everything about the newest trend going on? Yes exactly. Getting the interest of this generation.
But now, they need to create a franchise, or do they? Why not just use the critically acclaimed franchises of the past that has impacted pop culture for decades and bring it over to the 21st century for the younger generation to get a thrill on and at the same time gain the interest of the older generations that grew up with these classics!
It's a Win, Win, Win! Right? Well yes and no. Yes, because a lot of publicity will be provided. But then No because the criticism will rise. From the older generations and even from the film industry.
Now, bear in mind. These are just two examples. And it's not all the same. There are great original stories being told in the movie industry. But from the big corporations, you can see how they got their concept and kind of put two and two together.
So, what do I think about this new Skeleton Crew series from Star Wars? Not interested. But I can be surprised. As I have always said, "As long as the story is good, then it will be a good film".
Star Wars - Skeleton Crew will start streaming exclusively on Disney + on December 3rd, 2024. Enjoy the trailer below.
